Jeff Bland
Founder & Managing Director
About Jeff...
Jeff began his career at UBS PaineWebber in 2001, where he ranked in the top 3% of his national class for assets under management. After a brief stint with an independent firm, he branched out on his own and founded Burrus Financial Services in 2006. The Utah-based company initially worked with Wyoming and Utah ranchers and employees of area energy companies. In 2010, Jeff was hired to revise and build financial plans for oil industry employees whose 401Ks were impacted by the devastating Deepwater Horizon spill. Under his guidance, these clients were able to diversify and protect their retirement portfolios (despite their employer’s plummeting stock); and Burrus’ assets grew 285% in 18 months. With Jeff at the helm, Burrus has been named one of Utah’s Fastest Growing Companies by Mountain West Capital Network and the firm continues to expand; now serving individuals and companies, from Alaska to the Middle East.
Burrus adheres to a fee-only model, which prohibits its advisors from partaking in commissions or revenue sharing. As a result, Jeff has created a company that puts the client first. He is committed to the entire spectrum of what it means to be an advisor, building a sound portfolio that takes into account each individual’s unique financial situation. He regularly travels to his clients to ensure that he is in tune with their concerns.
Jeff has a BA from the University of Montana and is a member of the National Honors Society. He holds a Series 65 License and is a Chartered Estate Planning Practitioner. He is also co-founder of RBC Partners in Financial Literacy. Jeff enjoys fly fishing and spending time with his daughter.
Dan Hannon
Investment Advisor
About Dan...
Dan holds a Series 65 License, a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Utah and an undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University. As a graduate student he worked on taxation issues for Washington Terrace City. Dan then applied his skills to the insurance industry before transitioning to the classroom; he taught math, economics and history to middle school students at Salt Lake City’s Challenger School for four years.
In 2011, Dan was recruited by RBC Partners to teach financial literacy workshops. While working with Jeff, he became familiar with Burrus’ fee-only model; and a year later – confident in the knowledge that his role as advisor would be guided entirely by his clients’ best interests – Dan reentered the field of financial planning.
Dan enjoys spending time with his wife and five children; and he fills rare free moments reading about Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and other prominent figures in U.S. History. Dan is also a member of the Pi Alpha Honors Society.
